Colorado is a state of the Western United States encompassing most of the southern Rocky Mountains as well as the northeastern portion of the Colorado Plateau and the western edge of the Great Plains. It is the 8th most extensive and 21st most populous U.S. state. The estimated population of Colorado was 5,695,564 on July 1, 2018, an increase of 13.25% since the 2010 United States Census. The state was named for the Colorado River, which early Spanish explorers named the Río Colorado for the ruddy silt the river carried from the mountains. The Territory of Colorado was organized on February 28, 1861, and on August 1, 1876, U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant signed Proclamation 230 admitting Colorado to the Union as the 38th state. Colorado is nicknamed the "Centennial State" because it became a state one century after the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence. Colorado is bordered by Wyoming to the north, Nebraska to the northeast, Kansas to the east, Oklahoma to the southeast, New Mexico to the south, Utah to the west, and touches Arizona to the southwest at the Four Corners. Colorado is noted for its vivid landscape of mountains, forests, high plains, mesas, canyons, plateaus, rivers and desert lands. Colorado is part of the western and southwestern United States, and is one of the Mountain States.

In the given Colorado location map it clear that Colorado is located in the central region of the USA. This is a landlocked state, largely covered by Southern Rocky mountains and Colorado plateau. However, the western region of the state has plain. Hence, it is recognized as the state with vivid landscapes of mountains, plains, canyons, and mesas. Surprisingly, about 30 major peaks of the Rocky Mountains lie in this state only.

In addition, for the tourists’ point of view, Colorado has many attractions including 4 national park, 2 national historic sites, 2 national recreation areas, 6 national monuments, and many more recreational centers.

As shown on the given map of Colorado State of the USA, it is bordered by Wyoming and Nebraska in the north, on the east by Nebraska and Kansas, on the west by Utah, and on the south by Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Did you know Pikes Peak Cog Railway is the highest cog railway in the world?! Make the journey to the summit of Pikes Peak, where you'll enjoy pretty views -- and doughnuts. Yup, Pikes Peak is famous for its doughnuts at the Summit House. Don't ask for the recipe, though -- the formula for doughnuts that withstand high altitude is top-secret. Colorado is 38th state of the US constituted in the year 1876. Since then many developments have been taken place. The Colorado map shows the well developed roadways, railways and major cities. The Colorado state map also shows the capital city Denver situated in the north central part of the state.

The US State Colorado occupies 268,428 m², about 2,93 % of the total territory of the USA of 9,148,020 m². The total population of the US State Colorado with 5,607,154 inhabitants (in 2017) has already increased by 30,36 % in this millennium. Almost 40 years ago there were 2,717,190 fewer people. The capital Denver alone has 732,144 inhabitants.

Denver became the territorial capital in 1867. Denver is 155 square miles and has a population of 663,862. Denver is exactly one mile above sea level, giving it the nickname, the Mile High City.

Denver is the capital and most populous city of Colorado. Residents of the state are known as Coloradans, although the antiquated term "Coloradoan" is occasionally used. The climate of Colorado is more complex than states outside of the Mountain States region. Unlike most other states, southern Colorado is not always warmer than northern Colorado. Most of Colorado is made up of mountains, foothills, high plains, and desert lands. Mountains and surrounding valleys greatly affect local climate. As a general rule, with an increase in elevation comes a decrease in temperature and an increase in precipitation. Northeast, east, and southeast Colorado are mostly the high plains, while Northern Colorado is a mix of high plains, foothills, and mountains. Northwest and west Colorado are predominantly mountainous, with some desert lands mixed in. Southwest and southern Colorado are a complex mixture of desert and mountain areas.

Colorado is known under different nicknames; aka Buffalo Plains State, or Centennial State, or Colorful Colorado, or Columbine State, or Highest State, or Lead State, or Mother of Rivers, or Rocky Mountain Empire, or Rocky Mountain State, or Silver State, or Ski Country USA, or Switzerland of America and detailed official information about Colorado can be found on the homepage at

Our Comfort Index uses a combination of afternoon summer temperature and humidity to closely predict the effect that the humidity will have on people.

This is a better indicator than the average, because the median is not changed as much by a few unusually high or low values. The property tax rate of $6.79 shown here is the rate per $1,000 of home value. If for simplification for example the tax rate is $14.00 and the home value is $250,000, the property tax would be $14.00 x ($250,000/1000), or $3500. This is the 'effective' tax rate.
